Sean van Rensburg

He has competed at a high level for many years and has represented South Africa internationally, giving him first-hand insight into how yachts perform under demanding conditions. This experience informs his design approach, allowing him to consider not only theoretical performance, but how vessels behave in real-world sailing environments.

Sean holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a qualified RYA and SAS sail and power instructor, combining strong technical knowledge with extensive on-the-water experience. Since joining DTYD in 2017, he has become integral to the studio’s operations, overseeing project workflows, coordinating with clients and boatbuilders, and ensuring that each project is delivered to the highest standard.

A defining strength of Sean’s is his commitment to service excellence. He manages client communication throughout the design and build process, ensuring transparency, consistency and trust. His ability to balance multiple complex projects while maintaining strong relationships and attention to detail has been key to the continued success of the studio.

Sean’s leadership and contribution to the industry have been formally recognised through prestigious industry awards. Most notably, he received the Architect of Change Award at the South African Boatbuilders Export Council (SABBEX) awards, highlighting his impact on innovation, leadership and design within South Africa’s boatbuilding sector. This recognition reflects not only his technical expertise but also his role in driving progress and excellence within the industry.
