Charmaine du Toit

With a lifelong connection to the ocean and as the daughter of a passionate mariner, Charmaine has always had a natural affinity for boats. Her extensive sailing experience, including a Rio–Cape Town delivery, has given her a deep and practical understanding of life at sea — an insight that proved invaluable in the early years of the business.

During the formative stages of Du Toit Yacht Design, Charmaine led the interior design function, contributing to numerous custom yacht projects, including large-scale catamarans. Her work helped establish the studio’s reputation for delivering well-considered, fully integrated yacht designs that balance functionality with refined aesthetics.

As the business grew, Charmaine transitioned into overseeing the financial and administrative operations, playing a key role in scaling the company from a two-person practice into a highly respected design studio. Together with Anton, she has guided the growth of DTYD to a team of eleven designers and more than 120 completed projects, while maintaining a strong, values-driven business culture.

In recognition of her contribution to the industry, Charmaine was awarded the prestigious South African Boatbuilding Industry “Giant” Award in the Women in Boatbuilding category. This award acknowledges individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, nurtured talent and contributed meaningfully to the advancement of the industry. Charmaine’s role in building Du Toit Yacht Design, mentoring team members and helping shape the direction of yacht design in South Africa reflects the very essence of this recognition.

Her achievements are particularly notable within a traditionally male-dominated field, where she has played a significant role in building both a successful business and a respected presence in the industry.

Through her leadership, resilience and commitment, Charmaine continues to contribute to the ongoing success and evolution of Du Toit Yacht Design.
